Best Golf Training Aids

The best golf training aids come from the pros themselves.  I’ve captured videos of 198 Tour pros, and all display this overlapping move.

This version of a Mike McTeigue drill does a good job of encouraging suppleness and providing the feeling of the lower torso leading the way.  With supple upper torso and arms and holding a club, stand straight with your arms stretched out in front. Coil. Once your shoulders and arms have coiled almost as far as they can, you’ll strongly feel your floppy wrists cock as the whiphead continues to rotate through its last 15 degrees. A good overlapping point at which to begin the snappy uncoiling of your hips is as soon as you begin to feel that wristcock. Swing through as if you’re swinging a baseball bat.

Your arms will feel as if they’re just along for a whirling ride.  You will not feel any contraction, tension in your forearm or pectoral muscles.  You might consider including this drill in your pre-shot routine to remind you of the spurting lower-body-first move you want to feel as you initiate your flail. Snappily contracting your thigh and hip muscles while staying loose in the upper torso and arms probably will take some practice. When you get it right, you’ll be stunned by your
whiphead speed.

- Relax, feel supple, think ‘whip’
- add a good address position (covered later) and fondle
- lift ‘n coil toward the overlap then whirl your hips.
