Golf Help
Golf help is something all players can use from beginner to pro. I’ve put into one frame photos of six of the very best at the top of the lift ‘n coil with driver in hand. Each is at least a foot beyond parallel. They are: Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson. A worthy sextet to emulate!
Please assume an address position, leaning back. Fondle the club’s handle, then execute a lift ‘n coil, thinking “supple” and “fluid”. I bet that the rotation of your right side is greater than ever before, that your hands are higher than ever before, and that you might even see the clubhead out of the corner of your left eye at the top of your lift ‘n coil. If so, you’ve achieved more stretch than ever before and you’re ready to hit the ball farther than ever.
Bobby Jones, in Bobby Jones On Golf: “…it is truly amazing how far one can go if he can only keep from tightening up.” Adam Scott in Sept. ‘06 Golf Digest: “....I relax my arms and let them hang from my shoulders. When they start to feel a bit heavy, that’s when I’m ready to swing.” Fred Couples in April ‘08 Golf Digest: “For me, it all goes back to staying loose.....I bet you have the natural speed to hit the ball a lot longer than you’re hitting it-- you’re just getting in your own way. Try staying relaxed and letting the speed accumulate.” Sean Fister, three-time World Long Drive champion, Golf Digest, March, 2006: “....I noticed that before every pitch Nolan Ryan would wiggle, shake and rotate his right hand and wrist. It struck me that he was trying to put oil in them, to make them as relaxed as possible so he could throw the ball faster. That turned a light on for me. I went out the next morning and, keeping my shoulders, arms and hands as relaxed as I could, thought only of swinging the club fast through impact. Almost without trying, I hit some of the longest drives of my life. Straight, too.”
