Golf Short Game Tips

Effective golf short game tips are tough to find without asking a pro.  We asked the pros, and the following paragraphs are examples of the type of info we received.

The Seven Dwindles
Stretching can be hard work, and tiring. Breaking old habits in the golf ‘swing’ means using muscles in ways they haven’t been used. Your body is more comfortable doing it the old way. Slipping back into old habits happens sooo easily.

Here are seven deadly reversions that can happen when either your energy or your focus
dwindles.
1. In the fondle, your left hand may rotate around the handle counter-clockwise and/or your right hand may rotate clockwise.
2. At address, your head may creep forward and not stay sufficiently in back of the ball. You may lose your backward lean at the waist.
3. At address, your left foot may splay open less than 20 degrees.
4. During the lift ‘n coil, your hands and arms may raise only to a point where the left arm is parallel to a line across the shoulders; possibly related, your left shoulder may drop and may not coil sufficiently.
5. During the lift ‘n coil, your right side may slide back placing your weight on the outside edge of your right foot.
6. The initial move of your flail may be a push of the lower torso forward by your right leg and/or foot. Let the right buttock and left quads initiate the flail. Think of your right leg as an inanimate platform.
7. Your hand and forearm muscles, and/or mid or upper torso muscles may tighten either at address, during the lift ‘n coil, or as you begin your flail, leading to a simultaneous uncoiling of your hips and shoulders.

Please return to this checklist whenever your game goes sour.
