Golfing Lesson
Golfing Lesson on line or in a book can be game changing. For the rest of this book, when the word ‘back’ is used, it means the opposite of the direction the ball is going to go (forward). When ‘behind’ is used, it means the opposite of the direction the golfer is facing.
Notice that Matt has coiled the right side of his torso around into our behind zone. Free up, indeed unclutter, your mind from common “swing” theory and terminology.
Look with an open mind: is a more accurate description of Matt in the above photo that he’s “taken the club back” or that he’s whirled it around and gotten it behind himself?
In the images above, notice the parallel red lines on Matt’s right legs. The forward lean of the right leg is maintained during this around-to-get-behind coil. If the torso was moving ‘back’, wouldn’t the red line in the second picture have less forward lean? Tiger Woods in How I Play Golf: “Shifting your hips laterally to the right just kills your backswing. A good thought is to keep your weight on the inside portion of your right foot, keeping the angle of your right leg constant throughout the backswing. This is something I’ve worked on since I was a kid; it is an absolute trademark of my swing.” The torso does not slide in the back direction. Rather, the right side coils around and
ends up behind.
