Learn Golf Swing
To learn golf swing techniques, watch the pros. Please STOP!! And ponder…..the first and last photos in the 4-photo grouping on page 34. Think about the speed needed to rotate the left hip so far in so tiny a time. Just how fast is 0.35 sec.?
Try to watch three to four tenths of a second zip by on the clock at the end of an athletic event--you can barely see it. Go to a musical instrument store and set a ‘Sabine Zipbeat’ digital metronome at 168 beats per minute (= 0.357 seconds between beats). The brevity
of time between beats will be very revealing concerning how quickly the hips rotate. Please dwell upon this image of Matt.
His hips are way through--approaching their finish position, his shoulders not yet returned to parallel to the line of flight, his arms just showing up. If you have any lingering disbelief about keeping your abdominal muscles loose and supple, ask yourself this: How am I ever going to approach the position Matt is in above?
This overlapping move and the snappy quickness of the hips will be utterly new to most readers. But Bobby Jones agrees with Ben Hogan:
- In Bobby Jones On Golf: “I tried many times, in testing this idea, to turn my hips too
rapidly in hitting a full drive. I found this to be impossible…”
- Jones again: “The unwinding of the hips culminates in a sort of wrench [in the lower
part of the body]”
