Learning to Play Golf
Learning to play golf can be easier when you receive guidance from the pros. Tiger Woods’ Secret No. 5 in his book How I Play Golf: “For more yards, I snap my left leg.”
An Impactful Summary
Ben Hogan says: “The hips initiate the downswing.” Photos in the previous “Overlap” chapter show hips uncoiling before arms have even finished coiling. The research by Jobe, et al, confirms lower body muscles firing earlier than upper body muscles. The time for you to change your ‘swing’ has arrived. Now you KNOW you MUST initiate your flail--quickly--with your thighs and hips. Now you KNOW you MUST NOT feel as if your hips and shoulders uncoil simultaneously. Read on and SWAIL will help.
ACCURACY comes mostly from lessening the chance for collision between the back of the right elbow, and the lower right side. Right hip coiled around (4 to 6 inches behind and 2 inches forward) is Part I. Lift hands and arms up and away is Part II. Hips beginning to uncoil before arms and cocking wrists have finished coiling is Part III.
THE LEGS AND TORSO DURING THE FLAIL: LOWER RIGHT SIDE FORWARD=ACCURACY
Hips ahead of shoulders promotes whiphead speed by maximizing mid-torso muscle stretch. This chapter, by laying out Swail’s version of Ben Hogan’s “....back to the left....”, shows how that same quick move assures accuracy.
